The HSE & Bord Gais have both reported lost laptops with mixed implementations in terms of data encryption. Bord Gais is by far the worse of the two in terms of potential impact. The loss of customer data which is personally identifiable cannot be defended. This demonstrates the risks which organisations are exposed to over and above those regularly trotted out in justifying Business Continuity Planning. How was the crisis managed by the organisations, what could be the long term impact, what can we learn and how many organisations remain exposed ? – Thoughts welcome

You are correct. Business Continuity Plans are often seen to be pitched just at the IT systems failing or the factory going up in flames but there are far more risk factors out there with potential to impact a business
